I am still struggling with this my parents! They’re better grandparents than parents but some boundaries are still not respected. It’s very hard but I try my best to except nothing in return

3 weeks with your parents!? lol I COULD NOT. I can max do one afternoon. And now with my kids, yeah just one afternoon. I have to constantly set boundaries. CONSTANTLY.

For me it's screaming at my kids to stop talking over a movie they're watching together. I've told them no screen time when we're visiting if my kids can't exclaim during it. I'm apparently the badguy

its such a struggle. what is their need to constantly criticize everything and everyone around them?

One thing about me is I could never defend myself but I now will always defend my kids. It heals something in me now, too.

It was my mother in law. My kids are grown but it was tough. They don’t have much of a relationship with her.

Same goes for in laws. I used to be very passive and now I can kind of be an asshole. Oops.

My mom pretended to cry to get my daughter to do something she didn’t want to do. I looked my daughter straight in the eye and said “she’s sad and that’s okay those are HER feelings”

My family is Greek and I married a non-Greek and through him and therapy I realized sooo many things that I grew up with that are just crazy and unhealthy. Thanks for sharing all this!

I feel like my mom treats my son better than she treated me- and that REALLY triggered me. When I called her out on it, she got very gaslighty 🙃 We’ll have to see how it plays out from here
