@margaretskiff: Is it jealousy? Is it pure stupidity? Someone make it make sense #maine #portlandmaine #housingcrisis #mainers #rant #weird #costofliving #margaretskiff
I’d love to hear more about what you mean by this? Lifelong Mainer, I’ve never heard this perspective and I’m wondering if you can elaborate? :)

Hey there, non-lifelong Mainer living in Maine & engaged to lifelong Mainer. I think it’s more about being priced out of their hometowns than not wanting you to be successful. Also, less access

It’s mostly just because we don’t know where to put the sadness of being forced to move out of our communities and homes. It’s very tight knit here and when we get priced out it feels like someone

As a successful lifelong Mainer with deep Maine roots, I have never encountered this

Lifelong Mainer here, never heard this. Wondering if you get more openly negative opinions from people bc of the “what I spend in a month” videos which many Mainers can’t relate to the amounts spent

Lifelong Mainer, as well. I have not experienced this. What are some examples?

I'm confused. maybe it's more a reflection of how many second homes are there which makes it even harder for locals to live there. but I haven't encountered what you are saying

Lived here all of my 56+ years. Never heard of this - ever. Here’s a thought. Maybe your financial status ISN’T why they want you to leave??

I'm Irish & lived in Maine for a few years left just before the pandemic. I think it is worse now because house prices have skyrocketed due to out of state buyers. It's a difficult one.

I’m a Mainer and I feel this. Such interesting class dynamics here. Resentment for those that move out of the low/middle class!

I am older than you but I think because of where we grew up in the mid coast people just aren't used to seeing younger people financially secure so they think we are privileged even if we worked hard

Mainers are being priced out of their home state. You’re putting yourself in a position to be targeted by hate. Whether warranted or not. Either way sounds like you don’t feel like you fit in here :)

As someone who silently enjoys your content and also is local to the area and grew up here, this video is confusing and disappointing. There’s certainly frustration with out of staters but …

A college degree isn’t always a choice. There is much more to someone’s financial state other than what they “choose”…

I know it’s been said already but I think the root of it is people are frustrated feeling like they’re being priced out of their hometowns. The cost of living has skyrocketed in ME
