Have you tried Dean koontz? I feel like his books are very Stephen King-esk, and there are so many. I would recommend Intensity or The Bad Place to start

I ADORE eyes of the dragon. There is something about the way King talks about inherent authority/nobility that is so very classic fairy tale feeling. I would counter the metamorphosis with either 1/2
