This is American English. British English is closer to the original eg if you were to order pie à la mode we would have no idea that you want ice cream with your pie bc à la mode refers to fashion.

In Australia we say that the entree is the appetiser, and the main course is just the main course we don’t really use the word appetiser at all

Fun fact: in English a CV is still a resume but it’s a particular type of resume that’s waaaaay more in depth than a typical one. They’re usually used by professions at the doctoral level.

Entree in UK is what we also call a Starter which is your Appetiser. Never realised it was a main course over there

I think these are just American English because I speak British English and use the words here like the french, other than valet which is your car getting cleaned
