We usually all struggle with AUTISM, it almost becomes like a race, because we’ve been othered since we were young. And yet, when I’ve needed the most empathy, and I’ve never received it from society It’s been white autistics (often self-diagnosed or low-support) who couldn’t even sympathize with me (not all but A LOT.) usually early diagnosed or higher support needs defend me. I’ve been attacked just for being visibly autistic. For not masking. For misunderstanding. For being blunt. For being me. Instead of support, I’ve gotten gaslit. Instead of kindness, I’ve gotten cruelty. All while people say, “But I’m autistic too.” Are you? Are you really autistic or did you just want a label that gives you clout without the cost? Did you want an excuse to further not sympathize with the oppressed? To get to sneakily bully me because I’m black disguised as just coming for my autism! It feels like dog whistles when yall comment “IM AUTISTIC! Don’t give her grace” what you want to see me torn down? Bullied? Because when real autism shows up in a way that’s uncomfortable in someone you can’t tokenize or pity suddenly you’re the one offended. Fighting for our voices, for our truth, for accommodations won’t always look sweet or sound nice. Sometimes it’s raw. Sometimes it’s blunt. Sometimes it’s angry because it hurts to be erased by people who should understand. If this post bothers you, If it makes you want to unfollow me, That’s fine. You’re not the energy I want here. This is a safe space for real autistics For those who’ve been through the fire, who’ve been told they’re “too much,” Who’ve had to unlearn shame just to exist. And for the true white autistics, the self-discovering and self-suspecting ones who actually care I see you. But just know: defending multiply marginalized autistics won’t always be comfortable.
