My students show up on test day and immediately say “I’m going to fail”, then I give them time to review and ask questions and they don’t use it. It’s so hard to change their habits and mindset

i genuinely don't understand this. like "nobody taught us to study" you mean the countless exams didn't prepare you to review stuff? you mean the homework and practice questions are just for fun?

Those over 30 saying that her students weren't taught HOW to study, I genuinely don't recall anyone teaching schools back in the 90s either, we figured it out out of respect of not failing

I don't think there's one issue that's causing this. but there does seem to be a lack of futuristic dreams and hope. they look around and they don't see the same things I saw. as far as my future.

In HS if we didn’t take the time given in class to study and were talking/fooling around we’d lose that time to study and take the quiz immediately. Maybe that’s something to consider doing?

I don’t think it’s your fault, I think they have no intrinsic motivation or big goals for the future. Maybe their parents are stressed out by student loans & struggling to make ends meet (1/2)

It starts at home. if the parents don't take the initiative to sit down with their kids to do homework/help study, the kids won't develop that skill set later on and just stop caring

I give the study guide which in the SAME questions on the test, walk them through it, give them time, and they still fail…. I can’t do this anymore.
