Bloodmoon: The Unseen Game of Thrones Prequel That Almost Was Game of Thrones fans may be familiar with House of the Dragon, the prequel series currently gracing our screens. But before the Targaryens took center stage, another contender for the Iron Throne of spinoffs almost rose - Bloodmoon. This ambitious project, boasting Naomi Watts in a lead role, aimed to delve into the distant past of Westeros, eight thousand years before the events of the original series. Set during the legendary Age of Heroes, Bloodmoon promised to explore the origins of the White Walkers and the terrifying period known as the Long Night. While the concept was undeniably intriguing, the vast timeframe presented a challenge. Unlike the Targaryen-centric world of House of the Dragon, Bloodmoon had very little source material to draw from. Author George R.R. Martin himself has only written a handful of details about this era. This meant the creators would have needed to invent a significant amount of the story, potentially straying too far from the established lore for some fans. Despite its $30 million pilot episode, HBO ultimately decided to shelve Bloodmoon. The network reportedly desired a show that retained the familiar feel of Game of Thrones, and Bloodmoon's vast historical distance proved to be a bridge too far. While Naomi Watts won't be wielding a Valyrian steel sword anytime soon, Bloodmoon serves as a reminder of the vast potential and challenges that lie within the world of Westeros. Perhaps one day, when the time is right, we'll get to see this epic saga unfold on screen. #foryou #gameofthrones #houseofthedragon #hbomax
