Why does dinner time feel like a battle zone in blended families? I didn’t expect it to be the most stressful part of our day, but it was. One kid sulking. Another refusing to eat. Tension so thick, you could cut it with a butter knife. And me, sitting there thinking, "Wasn’t this supposed to be the heart of our home?" If you’ve ever dreaded calling everyone to the table… If you’ve ever felt like you were the only one trying to create connection… I get it. So deeply. Here are 3 small shifts that helped bring some peace back to our dinner table… One question: “What’s something that made you smile today?” (Sounds cheesy, but it gently softens even the grumpiest face.) One routine shift: Invite the kids to help prep or clean up (yes, even if they whine). Letting them belong to the process makes a difference. One mindset: “It’s okay if they don’t like every meal. I’m not here to entertain. I’m here to feed and connect.” (Relieving myself of that pressure was a game changer.) You’re not doing dinner wrong. It’s just that no one teaches us how to do this kind of hard. Want more real talk and practical hope like this? Get my free weekly newsletter, The Brave Mom Memo. It’s where I share things I don’t always post online. Comment “MEMO” and I’ll send you the link, or grab it in my bio. You’re not alone at the table. And it doesn’t have to feel this heavy forever.
