It is worth it if you use it enough. A seven day pass from Tokyo to Osaka and then day trips Osaka to Hiroshima, Osaka to Nagoya, Osaka to Kyoto and then back to Tokyo from Osaka has covered more then enough of the value

With the region passes they are just only for the fast Traveller - would love the arch but it’s not worth getting since I won’t travel in those 7 days

A night bus is also a good option in Japan. You do not lose day time for travelling and also save money for a hotel.

We purchased and for us was worth the 7 day pass, Tokoyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nagoya and Nagano then back to Tokoyo

for those who only do the golden triangle the pass is silly. for us the 21 day pass is worth it, we plan our trip that way too.

It's still worth it if you're traveling enough. I'm going for 3 weeks and the amount of journeys I'm using makes it worthwhile.
