Let’s say the $100M stock becomes 200M and you have to pay the tax. What happens when the value of the shares get low and your $100M is now $50M do they get a tax refund?

it's not the limit of $100M, it's that the box is opened. next thing you know them be coming after ALL and anything that has increasing value. our 401s, Roth's, brokerage accounts etc

If the intent was truly for it to only apply to people earning over $100 million it wouldn’t even pay for the expansion of the IRS in the IRA. Income tax was proposed under the same premise.

Because those with assets over $100m definitely aren’t diversified into the public market 🙄, taxing unrealized gains would absolutely affect 401k’s, consumer markets etc.
