as someone who dealt with something similar and lives in Mi try and get a city inspector out before they send somebody because if that person decertifies your apartment it cancels your lease

Unlivable conditions are valid for breaking a lease early with no fee. if they don't budge, you can withhold rent by depositing it in an escrow account

I appreciate everything saying to sue, we are not sure we have an “uninhabitable” case and even if we did, that’s a long and even more expensive process

You can use UM legal advice, my friend had this happen last year and they helped her when her basement flooded with sewage getting out of her lease

Your county escrow may be an option too if an attorney is too expensive, that’s what my husband and I had to do 3 years ago when our ceiling was leaking sewage

This is the issue a lot of the time. They meet the bare minimum and you can't do much about it. Paying to break the lease early is probably the only real solution
