There's no incentive for the working/middle class to have children. There's no benefit to effectively going down to one income for a year with very little if no tax relief.

It's supply and demand. Not enough homes have been built for the increase in population so it becomes a scarce resource and increases in value.

Dad of 2 here, I bought my first house at 40, we had kids when we were renting, earning less and struggling.
There isn't a good time to have kids, holding out till there is, if you want them, you will see your life go by, and regret it later on.

I do agree with you but the interest rates on mortgages back then was 11.20% rising to 18% in mid 80s you need to take that into consideration also when calculating these figures 👍
