HOW is this balcony passing inspections and up to code?! I'd be terrified

The shingles are adorable. The railing makes me nervous.

As someone who knows NOTHING about construction, are those kind of supports common? I haven't seen a patio without something that anchors to the ground

Hey! I’m an SE. It looks like there used to be metal support railings. Use caution when leaning on the new railing. Better safe than sorry 👍

It might be safe but my brain is telling me that railing will break if I lean on it 😭😭😭😭 I’d be too scared to move towards it

This looks so good! I’m from New Orleans and we LOVE a good balcony. 💜 We have these beautiful ornate brackets that would look fab. This one sort of matches your spindles!!

Is that safe? Does the railing actually support weight properly?

I'd remove the bottom supports and rather have pillars with a bench or plants underneath... the supports are there to take minimal space, but they are very large and breaks the space even more

Silvy (Taylor’s Version) :
I definitely would not feel safe on there without poles under the front part as supports! The whole thing relies on the anchors drilled into brick. I can’t imagine that meets code.

It's like a big shelf! Really doesn't look safe. 1 person at a time out there only.

Plans for improvements usually have to be approved by city authorities. Did you participate in that process?

Looks great! Now paint the black support bars a color that matches the brick so they blend in
