so counters are a painnnn and A LOT of them have sound changes usually for the numbers 1, 6, 8, and 10 but can happen with most numbers depending on what sound the counter word starts with.

If something is One (ichi) it's written ikk.. double consonant. So in this case, it's the first floor so ichi becomes ikkai. Second floor is single consonant. Nikai etc, up to jyuikkai nijuikkai

Generally 1,3,6,8,10 follow slightly rules. In your Genki book it has an appendix on counters, you follow this structure for most counters 🐯 keep up the great work

In Japan, our Ground floor is their First floor etc. Floors are counted ikkai nikai sankai yonkai etc. There are no itchy floors. 😏
