a side of me thinks all the old time "stone" used to be soft when formed like clay, then the sun/fire or over time it got harder until it was what we call stone plus gave it a fancy name 🤔

Unless Diorite wasn’t Diorite back then but, a mixture of minerals that hardened over time. If that were the case, it could have been mixed and poured into a mold perhaps.
