The party was inside, but Lisa was not. She'd escaped an hour ago, slipping through the back door of Jisoo's house while everyone was distracted by Rose's karaoke performance. The pool deck was empty. The water was still. Above her, the sky was scattered with stars—bright and indifferent and exactly the same as they'd been three months ago, when everything was different. When Jennie was still hers. Lisa sat at the edge of the pool, her feet dangling in the cool water, her dress bunched around her thighs. She hadn't wanted to come tonight. She'd known Jennie would be here. But Jisoo had begged, and Lisa had convinced herself she was fine, and now she was hiding outside like a coward while her ex-girlfriend laughed at someone else's jokes inside. She heard the footsteps before she heard the voice. "You're missing karaoke." Lisa's body went rigid. She didn't turn around. "I'm not in the mood for singing." "Since when? You love karaoke." "Things change." Jennie sat down beside her. Close, but not touching. She slipped off her heels and dipped her own feet into the water. The silence stretched between them, heavy with everything they hadn't said in three months. "You've been avoiding me," Jennie said quietly. "I've been giving you space. There's a difference." "I didn't ask for space." "You didn't ask for anything. You just... left." Jennie flinched. "Lisa—" "You stood in our apartment and said you couldn't do this anymore. You said you needed to figure yourself out. You said it wasn't about me, but it was, wasn't it? Because if it wasn't about me, you would have stayed." "I was drowning." "And I wasn't?" The words hung in the air. Lisa finally turned to look at her. Jennie's eyes were wet, her composure cracking. "You think I left because I stopped loving you?" Jennie's voice broke. "I left because I loved you too much. I was so terrified of losing you that I pushed you away first. I know that doesn't make sense. I know it was wrong. But I was so scared, Lisa. Scared that one day you'd wake up and realize I wasn't enough. So I made the decision for you." "You don't get to make decisions for me." "I know." "You don't get to decide what I can and can't handle." "I KNOW." Jennie's tears spilled over. "I know. And I've regretted it every single day for three months." Lisa pressed the heels of her palms against her eyes. "Do you have any idea what this summer has been like for me? I'd see a stupid meme and reach for my phone to send it to you. I'd wake up and forget, for two seconds, that we weren't together anymore. And then I'd remember, and it was like losing you all over again." "I did the same thing." Jennie's voice was barely a whisper. "I still sleep on your side of the bed. I still make your coffee order every morning. I still talk to you in my head, like you're there." "Why didn't you just call?" "Because I was ashamed. Because I thought you'd moved on. Because every time I picked up my phone, I convinced myself you were better off without me." "I wasn't better off." Lisa's voice cracked. "I was miserable. I am miserable." "Me too." "Then why are we doing this? Why are we both sitting here, pretending we're fine, when we're clearly not?" Jennie reached out, hesitating, then gently took Lisa's hand. "Because I don't know how to fix what I broke." "Maybe we can't fix it. Maybe we have to build something new." "Is that possible?" Lisa looked at their intertwined fingers. Then at the stars reflected in the pool. Then at Jennie—the woman who had broken her heart and was now holding it in her hands, asking for permission to put it back together. "I don't know," Lisa admitted. "But I know I don't want to spend another three months without you." "I don't want that either." "And I know I'm still angry." "You have every right to be." --- Contination in comments #jenlisa #creatorsearchinsights #fyp #jenlisa_story #jenlisaaustory
