Some locations may need more security than what we personally provide, but here are 5 simple tips to help protect your flock: 🔒 Secure Locks: Use locking carabiners on your coop doors. Raccoons are smart and can easily open basic latches, but these locks will keep them—and curious kids—out 🗝️ 🦉 Owl Decoys: Place an owl statue around your yard to deter hawks. Move it every once in a while to keep hawks thinking it’s the real deal. 🩶 Use Hardware Cloth: Unlike chicken wire, which only keeps chickens in, hardware cloth protects your chickens from predators like raccoons and weasels. It’s a must for your coop and run. 🌳 Tree Cover: Set up your coop under tree cover to make it harder for hawks to swoop in. Hawks in our location prefer open spaces (like fields) for hunting, and tree cover makes a huge difference. 🐈‍⬛ Pet Patrol: Having dogs and cats can help.
