In my 40s, I often felt insecure and unhappy with myself. I’d scroll through social media, seeing flawless, airbrushed images of women over 40, and it only made me feel worse. I never considered how heavily filtered and edited these faces and bodies were. I felt miserable looking at my reflection. Picture 5&6 are a good comparison of how filtered image looks so different than the real one. It erases all my age spots, not to mention I haven’t use the smooth skin & cover gray tool. Then, when I turned 50, something shifted. I realized that what truly matters is how I feel about my life, not how I look to others. My face may not fit society’s idea of perfection, but it’s mine. That realization was freeing. Embracing my natural self has brought me so much more peace and confidence. I started posting videos of myself—no makeup, no filters—just my real, textured, naturally aging face. ( these few pictures I do put on cheek blush, eyebrow and lipstick) I want other women who feel pressured to look younger to see that it’s okay to embrace your true self. A woman’s naturally aged face deserves to be celebrated as much as a flawless one. Now, at 54, I have gray hair, wrinkles, and age spots, and I feel beautiful—just as I am.
