this is so real, I'm Mexican and Turkish, and I'm only ever seen as "white" bc I'm paler, or I get excused as if I'm German or Asian, if I correct then they're like "NO YOU'RE WHITE" like what...!!

I feel this so much especially because half of my husband’s family “couldn’t tell” but still treated me as “exotic” and the other half immediately used micro aggressions and treated me as a zoo animal

thank you for speaking on this!! also many of us have gone from being various skin shades in our life. i was never ever assumed to be white until i was ~18, bc i get significantly darker in the sun.

I am 1/4 somoan and I've faced a lot of microaggressions about my more Samoan physical traits before I even knew I wasn't "fully white". And I've been working hard since to find where I belong.

I didn’t know I was Filipino passing until a Filipino coworker started asking me something in Tagalog… I mask at work and am non verbal so I had to write it out that I’m Hispanic😭

My old friend group told me I was white passing constantly and told me that I talked about being Mexican to much and that it was getting annoying and that’s why they kept telling me I was white pass

💯 agreed! All my life people have asked me what I am and where am I really from, or they try to guess my ethnicity like its a funny game! Im so sick of being told I look exotic 🙄

from Aotearoa, shocking how common getting asked "if you're (ethnic groups) why is your skin white?" in small indigenous communities where "breeding out" skin colour/ethnic features was/is common practice... like... idk, why do you THINK I'm white!?
