Never understood this thinking. I’m so happy that my mom made me still talk to her in tagalog when I would come home from school. She would tell me English at school Tagalog at home 😊

My dad was the opposite. He didn't want us to forget Tagalog. It annoys me that some parents in the Philippines only speak English to their children.

My mom remarried and only spoke English. I hate it most when Filipinos don’t understand why I can’t speak it.

My patents didn't teach my brothers and I Tagalog. Their native dialect was Cebuano. That's what they spoke in the house, but they were also fluent in Tagalog. They actually knew 3 languages.

I read somewhere to raise a bilingual kid, one parent should exclusively speak one language while the other parent should exclusively speak the other language to their kid all the time.
