Most of the comments don’t understand this. Weddings in some cultures are a way to help the new couple in life. People use the money as deposits for houses/honeymoon. Everyone gives money

I am Italian it is customary to cover the cost of your meal and add an amount as a gift. We don’t pay for their wedding, it’s like paying a meal at a restaurant, it’s an honour for to attend.

With my wife we got around $45.000 we put some clothes in some old suitcase took all the cash and we went on a 3 months honeymoon until the last penny 😂 my mother bought us 2 plane tickets to return
