we asked for books instead of toys from our guests this year. worked our great. we only ended up with 2 duplicates which ive set aside to regift 😅

for my 3yo's party we said "no gifts necessary, secondhand items/books are welcome" and it worked out great! People with kids often have things to pass on with plenty of life left

This would be great idea for schools that also implement the policy that you have to invite every child in the classroom - it would allow the kids to go to more bday parties and less parental strain

My kids favourite party had kids donate to the SPCA. They could do food or things on the shelters wish list. They were excited to find great deals and extra excited to bring a total 40lbs of food

We usually ask for donations to set aside for a zoo membership, they do still get toys from some people but they have so much stuff they don't even play with!
