@chronicallymarshy: While I agree with a level of pushing through I also believe that why push yourself so hard to the point of severe non epileptic seizures, injuries, ambulances and hospital trips when theres something that can significantly help reduce them and help me not feel so unwell with my POTS. With my wheelchair I can do so much more and stay out for longer without significant symptoms and I’m able to enjoy my time out, so that’s what I’ll be doing. #fnd #fyp #fndawareness #posturalorthostatictachycardiasyndrome #potssyndrome #iih #ibs #endometriosis #seizure
physical therapy caused my surgery to be undone. if i just took it at my pace i wouldve been okay.

I worked in a rehab center, in our facility, we give them whatever mobility aid they need and then try to work off of it later on if they could.

Wouldn't it be cause for a lawsuit to deny mobility aids for safety reasons?

i had a similar experence in a children's program where they actively shamed me for wanting my crutches and or limping- i couldn't properly lift my foot off the ground and i was 'dramatic'.

Was in rehab learning to walk again after paralysis. Used to stand aid for the first time in physio, proper buzzing with myself. I tell one of the HCAs and she remarked how she thought I'd have been 1

i had to use mobility aids temporarily for a sprained knee and ankle at the airport. the amount of stares and snarls ive gotten was insane. i feel so bad for anyone who has to use them regularly.

Will never understand why they discourage mobility aids so much when mobility aids give you freedom to live beyond four walls

I’ve been using a cane for years then I stopped needing it for awhile. I’m back to the cane but I really need a chair for the days where I just can’t.

I have FND too and was told the same thing! too many falls and seizures hurt my tailbone so now it's crutches time. I finally have a good life. glad to see someone else like me ❤️

yup my physio was obsessed with me walking. despite me crying after a few feet of walking. ultimately walking isn't my journey currently and that's okay. my wheelchair keeps me safe and gets me there

pushing was seeing someone could continue aiding was making sure their walker was stable and they had someone to lean on if needed (my cousin after massive leg surgery) I'm sorry you got the wrong one

A little push is okay, but nothing beyond your entire capability and will never be a replacement for a mobility aid.

I would in theory be better off building muscle. Which is what im reminded of any time i talk about an aid. I just got a cane despite everything and its such a relief.

as a rehab nurse that's so fucked up and I'm really sorry. The point of rehabilitation is to get the patient to their highest *possible* level of function, not overexert them
