@ashleyjames: What an absolutely amazing day working alongside the Mayor of London to launch a new landmark toolkit to teach pupils about healthy and respectful relationships, as part of his work to tackle violence against women and girls. 🙏 This training will help educate young boys AND girls to know what harmful behaviour looks like, and why it is not ok. It will also teach them about the need to be kind and respectful to one another – regardless of gender. We spent the day together at a primary school in North London to see the year 6 boys and girls use the training in real life. What was amazing to see is that the boys and girls were all having so fun whilst learning such incredible life skills. The training uses drama, art and media to provide a safe, enjoyable space where children can engage with sensitive topics, ‘rehearse’ for real-life scenarios and explore their rights, responsibilities and expectations within relationships. It took me 27 years to learn about red flags and boundaries so to see these conversations happen in such age appropriate ways was emotional! 🥹 I was there today as a woman, as someone who once was a girl, and as a mum to a son and a daughter who so wants to protect them both. We all know that there is a huge issue with misogyny and sexism - and too often leaders have brushed sexism aside as banter. Like lots of you I’ve watched in horror as negative influences have gained prominence in society (like Andrew Tate) and this toolkit will help to challenge those attitudes. Sadiq spoke so honestly about his desire and commitment to tackling the root cause of violence against us. From today, every state primary school in London can access it, so please do encourage your local schools to use it!
