#pov | you’re on a two-week family vacation with Jeo Ong—your ex. Day 9 – Almost, always The quietest moments hold the loudest truths. Sometimes it’s not what’s said that hurts — it’s what isn’t. --- It started with breakfast. Jeo walked into the kitchen to find the table already set — sinangag, fried tuyo, eggs soft-scrambled just the way he liked them, and a jar of calamansi juice freshly pressed. The scent hit him before the realization did. She cooked. Again. “Gising na si sleepyhead,” Janice teased, flipping a tortilla on the pan. “Wow, kompleto,” Jeo muttered, rubbing his eyes. “Sino ang chef?” Janice nodded toward the living room. And there she was. Sabrina. Curled on the couch in one of his old hoodies, hair tied up, phone in hand, quietly scrolling. She looked like she belonged. Again. “Sabi ko nga ma, hindi ko na kailangan ng alarm,” Jeo said, pretending to stretch. “Nagigising na lang ako sa amoy ng memories.” Janice swatted his arm lightly. “Tigilan mo ‘ko diyan.” He grabbed a plate, sat down, and took a bite. She didn’t look up. But she saw. She always did. --- Later that day, they decided it was “cleaning day.” Siko was tasked with sweeping the porch. Domeng had to reorganize the beach toys. Jeo? Paired with Sabrina, of course — to clean the old storage room. He didn’t even try to argue. The room hadn’t been touched since the last summer they were together. Dust clung to every surface. Old board games, beach mats, mismatched slippers, even a box labeled “SABBIE’S STUFF” shoved into a corner. Jeo stared at it. “Wow,” she muttered. “I thought you guys burned that.” He smirked. “We almost did. Pero kinontra ni Dongdong kasi nandun daw ‘yung favorite comb mo.” She crouched beside it and opened the lid slowly. Inside: a small journal, her old hoodie, an expired sunblock, Polaroids. Too many Polaroids. Him carrying her on his back. Her biting into an ice cream cone with her eyes closed. Their hands, linked underwater in one blurry photo. She lifted one photo. “This was taken sa back of the van,” she said. “Yung field shoot.” He stepped closer, peering over her shoulder. “Yeah,” he said. “You were sleeping. Ako ‘yung kumuha.” Her hair had been messy, face turned to the window, light falling gently over her features. Peaceful. Completely unaware. She looked like she belonged to that moment entirely. “Ang ganda mo diyan,” he said, quieter this time. She laughed, flustered. “Anong ‘ganda’? Tulog nga ako n’yan!” “Exactly.” He hesitated. Then: “Can I… have it?” She blinked. “Yung picture?” “Yeah,” he nodded. “If okay lang. Para lang… sa phone ko.” She studied his face, maybe looking for a trace of irony. But there was none. He was serious — and a little shy about it. She handed it to him. “Sure,” she said. “Kung gusto mo.” He took it carefully, like it might break in his hands. And later, when they finished cleaning and he was alone in their shared room, he slid the photo behind his clear phone case, right where her smile faced him every time he picked it up. No captions. No announcement. Just that moment. Her, asleep in the back of the van. Her, still quietly with him. --- That night, while the others sat around the firepit, Sabrina joined Jeo on the back steps. It was cold. She didn’t speak. He didn’t either. But the photo was already pressed against his palm. And somehow, the silence didn’t hurt this time. The sky turned gold again — one of those slow sunsets that felt like a memory being written in real-time. Astrid was asleep on Aileen’s chest. Dongdong sat between Domeng and Jeo, eating barbecued corn. Siko filmed the last embers of the day. Everyone looked content. Settled. Except Jeo. Because he couldn’t stop watching her. Sabrina, standing by the tree line, laughing at something Janice said, her hoodie sleeves tugged over her hands. He thought of how they still hadn’t talked. Not really. Not since the last few nights. ++continuation [#au #jeoong #jeremiahemmanuelong #fypシ #abcxyz ]
