@doctor.nick1: I’ve got some jokes too… mostly about surgeons, but sometimes I'll mix other specialties in as well. Fun facts about surgery as mentioned in the clip: 1.) Food typically takes between six and eight hours to pass through the stomach and small intestine and then about 36 hours to move through the large intestine. 2.) The OR is kept cold (usually between 68° and 72°F) to keep the operating team comfortable during the procedure. It is not kept cold to prevent infection, as lowering the patient's core body temperature can actually increase the chances of them acquiring infection. 3.) Redheads may require up to 20% more anesthesia than individuals with other hair colors. This is felt to be due to mutations in the melanocortin receptor (MC1R) gene. The MC1R gene is responsible for red hair and fair skin. Here is a study discussing redheads and anesthesia: Liem EB, Lin CM, Suleman IS, Doufas AG, Sessler DI: Increased anesthetic requirement in subjects with naturally red hair. Anesthesiology 2002; 97:A77. Follow for more surgery-related info 😷 #surgery #Education #surgeon #Medical #funny #anesthesia #medicalschool
