@mummyandherthree.autism: What a journey it's been so far! When I was pregnant with Oliver I had all of these thoughts about who he would be, what he would grow up to become and how his life would pan out and I had to replace every single one of those thoughts, with this new reality. I have no idea what tomorrow will bring, new behaviours, good and not so good, challenges, achievements, ups and downs. There are so many metaphorical situations I could compare our journey as a family to, but yesterday's trip got me thinking how I got on the what I thought was the 'neurotypcial' boat but no, suprise! I was always on the neurodiverse one with Oliver, with a route that no one can tell me about. The boats look very similar to start with, leading you to think you're all going to where you expected to, but you slowly start to notice the boats not passing points that others have done previously and when you question this, the excuses come in, oh the boat is taking the long route, the boat is just focusing on the mountains, it will get to the sea soon, you're just imaging it, the boat is going the right way when I look at it etc etc you might get lucky and find someone who will agree that the boat is not going the way other boats typically go and you can't start to plan your new route, but most likely you'll have to hit a wall, come to standstill or even have the boat be almost sinking before someone acknowledges this new route and help. It can be hard being on a journey with no specific route either, the boat can make progress but then take a quick turn around and go back on itself, it can be still for a while, then quickly reach multiple landmarks, all at once.
