It is because Americans are ALWAYS in bs corporate speech mode. It feels like the inauthentic way you talk in a work office . . . ALWAYS. They never take the corporate mask off and show their trie selves (because there is nothing real inside ro show.)

I completely agree and my friends from Europe say the same, it’s more cynical and people are not as optimistic about every day life in Europe. We are raised in the states to dream big, nothings out of our reach. We grow up smiling and waving. I will never compliment someone if I don’t mean it. We just are a bit more upbeat in life compared to Europe. I say we… obviously not every American. We also are loud and confident with our personality’s.

life is too short to spend it miserable. I'd rather find joy and happiness in the small mundane things than spend my time gloomy. I don't care if that makes Europeans think I'm fake. @ least I'm happy

Being raised in the American friendly culture is why we are as we are. It’s not fake. It’s our way of life. Just going out and interacting with strangers is uplifting, especially when having a bad day

I just started a new job most of my coworkers are from South America India and Asia with a smattering of Eastern European I smile try and make jokes chit chat is hard language barrier but I think

We’re taught manners, and being polite from a VERY young age here. Most of us can go anywhere and make friends. Been to 8 countries and found locals that wanted to hang out in every one 🤷

I've found privately Europeans feel happy when you compliment them. Especially the men. Women are less receptive.

Sometimes when I compliment a stranger and I hear a English accent when they say thanks, I worry that they think I was being fake.

So weird. Europeans have so many great things: health care, pensions, public transportation! Wild they are still choosing grumpiness. We’re out here swinging in the breeze and are pretty cheerful.

My take away as to why they assume we are fake is that Europeans must be fake when they are in a good mood, give compliments, have success... that's their experience so they also assign that to Americans. Jeez, sounds so miserable.
