I get defensive when im embarrassed as well. I’d say you just caught her off guard and she assumed you were only taking the trash out in a judgy way.

Being a new mom you want to be able to do it all. I would have asked if she wanted any trash taken out before you left to be helpful w/out directly asking which can feel like shame almost to a PP mom

she was definitely an overwhelmed mama and was probably feeling embarsssdd you saw the trash and took it out. i’m sure she was wanting to get to it and hadn’t since she had her hands full. As her friend, I would’ve taken it out anyways
