@recycldstardust: Replying to @ It can be tricky to spot an authentic made native American indigenous dream catcher. Dream catchers originated with the Ojibwa aka anishinaabe nation . Due to trade between Native American nations other native and indigenous nations began to make their own. You will find different variations of the traditional Dreamcatcher by different tribes and nations. When looking for a Dreamcatcher online you want to make sure that the description includes which tribe it comes from and you want to try to get directly from the originators of it. Try to look for ones that say indigenous handcrafted or indigenous made as those will be protected under the Indian arts and crafts act meaning that they are from an actual native person. If you see anything that looks like it’s made of a lot of plastic yarn has a different or themed shape these are definitely not authentic dream catchers. #nativetiktok #nativeamerican #nativefamily
I have SEVERAL dreamcatchers all custom made pieces by friends or Elders from within my Nations, because I have severe night terrors, sleep paralysis(demon who comes with it), and insomnia.

Interesting enough I do have a dream catcher (I live on Algonquin territory) and it is made by a local Anishinaabe artisan, sold at my local Anishinaabe owned store, and it does have lil crystals in I

my auntie makes ones that are more "fake looking" but she tries to use the traditional materials (the only exception is the sinew being imitation sinew but otherwise they are pretty)

My older brother picked me up a Dreamcatcher from a reservation in Arizona. I had it hanging above my bed and one day when I was gone, my dog ate it 😭 I hope it wasn’t a sign 🥲

is it inappropriate to make one yourself as a non native person? I learned how to make them as a kid but stopped when I learned about cultural appriation 😅

I'm from New Zealand and only recently found out I have Native American ancestry, from the Mohawk Trurtle Clan. I would love to trace my family tree ❤
