I reckon anyone who gets a grip of this concept, that we humans designed math rules so they work for us, can go a long way in understanding maths the way they should.

this explanation seems like setting an arbitrary boundary on a set based on a real quality of numbers just to make a method work instead of just setting a new rule for the method to make it fit

My perspective: Euclid's use of primes vs composites was about lengths, and negative lengths don't make sense. 1/2

I always thought of primes as building blocks. You can have as many “1” building blocks as you like, but it never changes the value of the tower.

thank you for answering about negative primes, I just had that thought and then was like, wait, maybe it could be or maybe not, let's math it out

what if you say any integer who's absolute value has exactly 2 distinct factors? that would include negative numbers, no?

This explained prime numbers better than high school math ever did.

Teaser: Let's define the Zero Infinite Prime Number as:
p₀ = ∞√0
where ∞√ denotes the infinite-dimensional square root.

My favorite def is probably ℙ = { p ∈ ℕ | ∄ a,b ∈ ℕ, a>1, b>1, p = ab }

Prime numbers are tax.
1 is not a prime number, because it is GOD and there is money there that is tax.
-1 is not a prime number, because it is dead in the tax system.
