As I understand it, the horses bred by the Mongols (which still exists as the Mongolian Horse breed today) were a lot more self-sufficient in terms of grazing from their surroundings rather than requiring feeding from people, and they’re better built to survive the outdoors without needing extra help from humans, so maybe that’s part of how they were able to better manage so many horses in their forces?

It all comes down to speed and impact. Also, is there a time in history where cavalry broke unshaken infantry?

Id like to hear more about the logistics of Calvary horses. Cause I asumed they could just feed off the lands around the camp and 💩there too.

Also your cavalry could take out their ranged units, and if they ain’t got archers, then your archers can get closer which means more accurate and better range etc

mounted archers that could hit foot soldiers but those foot soldiers being unable to hit them back were also terrifying

I was always told soldiers would try to avoid killing charging horses because they were also valuable. Is that true?

from what I understand, the really good tactitions would set up camp, then have their horses be stalled in between the inner and the outer rings, then the dung was sent out & used in/on the outer wall

Weren't the horses basically Clysedales, too, so they had all that power and muscle to run over infantry?

Easy for the monguls, if everyone is on a horse (and they didn’t ‘camp’ like other armies) you just ride for half an hour each day and you’ve got fresh fodder and no poo👍

you must also consider that, for every major battle, there are thousands of small skirmishes, and a soldier that can move quickly and hit very hard, is invalicabile in those
