Gary Brecka talking nonsense again; blending your fruit makes you fat. Do you know why videos like this boil my piss? Fruits are nutritious, and most people don’t eat enough of them. One obstacle that causes people not to eat them is because many people are afraid of the sugar content. So, this whole ‘rapid blood sugar spike’ thing with blended fruit sounds perfectly plausible. But, the research literature doesn’t actually agree with this. Most studies comparing whole fruit vs blended fruit tend to find similar increases in blood glucose. There are some newer papers actually showing that blended fruits result in lower blood glucose changes (possibly because fruits that contain seeds could release polyphenols when they are blended. This likely wouldn’t be the case with all fruit). Also, *even if* blending a fruit caused a sharper blood glucose increase, this doesn’t mean it makes you gain weight. The glycemic index is not a reliable indicator of whether a food makes you gain or lose weight lol. So, it makes people unnecessarily scared of something that ideally, most people could benefit from eating more of. Also, making a video like this which contains quick summaries of 6 different research papers takes a sh*tload more time than it does for someone to go on a popular podcast and say “blending your fruit makes you fat”. Remember, it takes significantly more effort to dispute a false claim than it does to make it in the first place. Which is why it’s so easy for charlatans to thrive on social media lol.
