We don’t export much and run chronic trade deficit last 20y. We cannot export our cars because every other country has 100% tariffs on cars

Free trade isn’t free. It cost workers in the highest paid countries their jobs because corporations are ALWAYS looking for cheaper labor. It’s a race to the bottom.
