@hr_explained: Replying to @Vince Urban HR’s job is not to protect the company. That’s Legal’s job. And managers are the front line of defense a company has in getting complaints and litigation. A manager who doesn’t know employment laws will result in employee complaints and litigation for the company and cause harm to employees. How does a manager manage their staff if they don’t know the company’s policies? Requiring a manager know a company’s policies is a basic expectation. Yes, this includes being able to discuss FMLA and ADA even if they aren’t the ones to approve the requests. Why are we allowing managers to manage employees if they don’t even understand policies? I don’t get it. Explain it to me like I’m 5, I guess. #humanresources #corporatetiktok #careertiktok #managersbelike #careeradvice #leadershipdevelopment #jobtips #hrtiktok #corporatelife
From another HR pro, Thank you. HR is one of the most misunderstood professions out there.

I filed a state and EEOC complaint against my boss, HR was useless but all the redirecting from my boss to HR went no where. My boss was the only who denied my FMLA, 1/2

I am out of fingers and toes about how many times I have seen my company sued due to these issues. What gets me is that most of those managers are STILL there! Some have been promoted!!

Managers don’t understand… when you support staff, not only does your team perform better -your case looks really good should you ever get sued- because you did everything you were supposed to 🥰

Well said. I have been talking about this for years. We do not manage employees' work, managers do. We are here as a resource and expertise in Employment Standards and best practice.
