@myordinarytreasure: Victorian Skirt lifter! Please visit my Insta - @myordinarytreasure for the details and updates on all my river finds. With the autumn days ever shortening, here are some recent river finds which took me back to the misty mornings of another time. Popular from the 1840s through to the early 20th century, the skirt lifter was used to lift heavy trained skirts off the ground. Keeping your expensive garments clean and away from the muddy street (and remain socially acceptable) meant using one or both hands to keep the skirts elevated. The device was usually connected to a belt at waist level via a chain. An important and liberating invention, it allowed women to participate in sports, such as tennis, ice skating and horse-riding, and to be far more active in their lives. #riverfinds #mudlarking #wadingfortreasure #treasurehunting #victorian #calming

It's like that stopper was made for that perfume bottle. It may seem a bit silly but it's like after years without purpose it's finally found a home ❤️
