@recycldstardust: Replying to @dudedoe There is a difference between nation tribe and clan when it comes to Native American and Indigenous people. Nation is the largest and it’s usually made up of multiple bands of tribes. Examples of tribes or Cherokee Chickasaw Mohawk and Navajo (using more commonly use identifying names these are not necessarily the names that the tribes themselves use. and if you’d like more info on that let me know!) so one area might have a few different tribes under the same nation when it comes to clan that’s even more specific. A clan is basically your family and it’s usually matriarchal meaning that if you were from a clan you can trace your ancestry using it. As always Native American indigenous people are not a monolith, we all have varying traditions culture history and heritage and this doesn’t apply to every single tribe or nation - if you have any specific questions please do let me know! #nativetiktok #na#nativetiktoka#nativefamily #greenscreen
Thank you for always breaking down the facts that were intentionally omitted from textbooks in public education!!

Really helpful. Question, since a clan is related by a family tie, could it be compared to a family last name, in a way?

Thank You! We were taught about The Iroquois and that it had five tribes but never truly went into detail, despite having a whole section on Native History.
