From seeing and hearing to touching, we ensure our activities engage all senses. The sound of the letter E—'eh'—is one of the trickiest for kids to grasp. I like to demonstrate it by stretching my mouth wide and repeating,

From seeing and hearing to touching, we ensure our activities engage all senses. The sound of the letter E—'eh'—is one of the trickiest for kids to grasp. I like to demonstrate it by stretching my mouth wide and repeating, "E says eh, eh." The lowercase 'e' is particularly challenging; it’s the naughty letter that starts in the middle, unlike most other letters that start at the top. Plus, E is the last vowel we learn, marked distinctively in yellow along with other vowels in our review set, emphasizing its dual sound nature in our catchy letter song: "E says eh, E says eh, every letter makes the sound E says eh." The uppercase E is formed with one big line and three little lines, while for the lowercase e, we use the Handwriting Without Tears method: "hit the ball and run around the bases." I simplify it further with the phrase, "over, up, and around." Watch as the students confidently engage with the letter E, eagerly shouting out the sounds even before we finish!
