Anniversary Show with Craig Bartlett" on The Arun Mehta Show!! - tfw when your longterm boyfriend introduces you as his friend because you're a gay man in a cartoon that aired in 1998 and they almost didn't even let that much in. I will NEVER get over how Simmons just glosses over Peter in the introductions. "My friends (Peter) and JOY!" Like he didn't want them to know that Peter was important to him so he acted like he was even less important than Joy. Maybe it was also for his mother's benefit, and yet he still invites Peter to Thanksgiving becuase he IS important to him. Actually so insane I need a full backstory on them IMMEDIATELY! I will ALSO never get over how when they were making this episode, the Nickelodeon executives just didn't care enough to look over the show as it was being made. They would submit things for review, and they would always come back with no notes because THEY WEREN'T READING IT! And so they were just able to make Simmons implied gay all the way to the final cut, which is when someone finally sat down and watched and and was like "GAY???? and WINE??? in a CHILDREN'S SHOW? NO!" and so they sent out a GAY executive to meet with Craig and tell him Simmons couldn't be gay. But the joke was on them because it would have cost thousands of dollars to change since they were so far in production. That's likely the main reason they let it slide. They didn't even learn their lesson, either.
