Sir Nigel Gresley is a famous British steam locomotive, part of the LNER Class A4 class, designed by the legendary engineer Sir Nigel Gresley. Built in 1937 by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), it was designed for high-speed passenger service and shares the streamlined design of its more famous sister locomotive, Mallard, which holds the steam locomotive speed record. Sir Nigel Gresley itself achieved fame in 1959 when it reached a recorded speed of 112 mph, making it the fastest post-war steam locomotive in the UK.
