I’ve been loving the process of giving old hoodies new life, and here’s how I did it 🔄 Materials Needed: Grab your old hoodie or sweatshirt, some scissors, your grandma’s sewing machine, and fabric you love. I like using vintage curtains from thrift stores—they often have such pretty patterns! Everything I use, from hoodies to the backing fabric, is secondhand. Step 1 - Examining the Sweatshirt: First, I check for any stains, holes, or damage. This usually inspires the entire design for the reworked piece. Step 2 - Creating the Design: I come up with the design in my head, then sketch it freehand on paper, cut it out, and model it on the sweatshirt. After that, I trace the paper design onto the fabric (usually thrifted) and cut it out. I back the design with a material similar to the hoodie (thrifted, of course) to ensure the feel is the same. The curtain fabric I use often needs backing because it’s too thin and not as skin-friendly. Step 3 - Pinning the Design: Once the design is ready, I pin it to the sweatshirt, which is turned inside out. The design should face the outer side of the hoodie because we’ll cut from the right side later—this is called reverse appliqué. I also sew the backing to the design fabric with a zig-zag stitch to prevent fraying. If you have a serger, that works great too! Step 4 - Sewing: Next, I sew around the edges of the pinned design on the sweatshirt. A zig-zag stitch helps keep it sturdy, but even a straight stitch would work well. Step 5 - Lengthening the Sleeves: The sleeves on this sweatshirt were too short for the body, so I extended them by adding fabric from the design material. ✨ And there you have it—a fresh, upcycled sweatshirt that’s both stylish and sustainable! ✨ sew upcycle rework repeat ♻️ • • • • • #reworkedclothing #reworkedclothes #reworkedfashion #reworkedvintage #sustainablefashion #1of1 #vintagenike #nikevintage #reworkedhoodie #nikesecond #nikethrift #reworked #upcycle #upcycled #upcycledclothing #upcycledfashion #upcyclefashion #SmallBusiness #howto #DIY #lifehacks #crafts
