My engagement was 5 months. I loved it. Everyone in his life was convinced I was pregnant—I wasn’t. I just wanted a certain date and didn’t want to wait. I’m now pregnant with a honeymoon baby.

In my vocabulary if you don't have a wedding date then it is no engagement. The wedding date Also needs to be within a year if not at least one of you is not sure.

We were engaged for 2 years. Takes that long to save for a wedding alongside bills, mortgage and travelling etc. the time goes by regardless, it doesn’t really matter does it.. like be serious. 2y is a blip in our lives. It’s not that deep 😅

I just love how the only way to “progress” in a relationship, in his opinion, is engagement and then a wedding right after

Everyone saying it’s too expensive that’s why is HUGELY missing the point. Is your wedding more important than marriage?

I find marriage as a matter of the church rather than a matter of taxes. My husband and I were married in the eyes of God long before we signed papers. Our “2 year engagement” was a term of 1/

As someone who is in a happy 8 year relationship (engaged now for 1 year and planning a 2026 wedding). I don’t think that it’s people devaluing commitment. There are 2 main reasons:

I think the wedding industry is the problem here and that we’ve idealized materialism over a relationship. Who needs a wedding? Just keep it small and make it about the relationship and building (1)

My wedding cost around 300 dollars, I don’t understand why people need to make such a huge expensive wedding for one night. Do what you can afford and forget what others think.
