Blueland is a bit lost right now but I think they can get back on track by going back to basics: powdered detergent. Let me explain: 1) Packaging - It seems like their focus is reducing plastic waste from packaging, a powdered detergent would fit great in the cardboard bags. A powder would also sort out the dissolving issue which can be a very serious pain and is one of the two reasons behind its poor performance. 2) Performance - A single tablet is simply not enough product for most loads. A typical two tablespoon dose of powdered detergent weighs 24 grams while a Blueland tablet is only 6 grams. This means you'd have to use 4 tablets to match up to the smallest recommended dose of a typical powdered detergent (by mass). In my testing, using 24 grams (4 tablets) of Blueland detergent greatly increased the performance verse using 16 grams (two tablets). At $.34/tablet, this would drive the cost per load to ~$1.40 making it the most expensive detergent on the market. 3) Why A Tablet? - The main reason for their attempt into a dosed product is to compete against the big brands 'pack' (pod*) detergent and push their anti-PVA marketing (PVA is the plastic polymer used to house most laundry detergent pods). Comparing their tablet to a typical concentrated liquid pod is not apples to apples. They have just pressed powdered detergent into a tablet. Keep it simple folks, powdered detergent (from my perspective based on frequency of comments) is having a moment right now. By switching to making powdered detergent you'd save money on production, reduce cost, and provide your client an easier to use and better performing product. If you love your Blueland detergent tablets and want to try and get a bit more performance try crushing it up and using a bit more!
