https://www.cbsnews.com/video/why-the-multibillion-dollar-kidney-dialysis-industry-is-under-fire/ TikTok Is Failing Kidney Patients: Misinformation, Vanity, and Dangerous Advice What’s happening on TikTok right now in the kidney health space isn’t advocacy. It’s performative vanity disguised as care. I’ve spent just four weeks observing—and I can say with full certainty that the platform is being flooded by self-styled "influencers" who exploit their diagnoses for pity, attention, and likes. This isn’t about education. It’s about ego. These individuals post video after video, centering themselves in every frame—crying on camera, romanticizing dialysis, and sharing misinformation under the banner of “awareness.” But they’re not clinicians, they’re not educators, and they’re not helping patients. In fact, they’re hurting them. This video is not just about misleading dietary advice or false hope around transplants—though both are serious issues. It’s deeper. It’s about a disturbing shift where illness becomes branding, and real, vulnerable patients are misled by fake experts who haven’t even done the most basic research into HLA, PRA, or rejection risks. Let’s be clear: Being sick doesn’t make you an educator. Sharing your trauma doesn’t mean you're spreading truth. Filming in clinics and exposing other patients is not activism—it’s a HIPAA violation. The psychological harm of all this? Massive. Patients with chronic illness often battle depression, medical PTSD, and identity collapse. TikTok is feeding this with toxic positivity, false cures, and peer pressure disguised as "community." I was recently a panelist on a CE-accredited webinar focused on digital misinformation in kidney care—and yes, TikTok was called out. What we’re seeing isn’t just sad. It’s systemic failure amplified by an algorithm that rewards pity over accuracy, and performance over ethics. It’s time to reclaim this space—for truth, for dignity, and for the real patients who deserve better. #CKD #dialysiswarrior💚💚💚 #ESRD #healthcare #dialysis #patientsafety #kidneydisease #kidneyfailure #vanitymirror @disrenalkidney @kidneyfailureunfi@geminilady0616backup@underxovergee5@natalie__marie@rosedeeazz@denisrenal@navisshow@caligirl1o17@snapback2lyfe_podcast@ronnaelbaz@danimaricalli@locdlane23@dialysislifestyle@chronically_ariel @jessicaclark8100 @kidney365 @tiktok @ttkwarrior @tiktok_police71 @
