it looks like it was caused by the initial cavitation of the rock breaking the surface tension and pull in the water downward causing a displacement than rapid fill.

surface area of the rock that hit the water was in a split second too much for the surface tension of the water to break, hence the effect you saw.

I’m gonna make a wild guess and see if I’m right! The center was real narrow and real deep and the rest of the pond was super shallow that was immediately effected by the boulder!
