I learned this when my (now) 18yo was learning to read and a saw “cat” and I said sound it out and he said “cuh-ah-tuh” it was SO hard to re-teach him ❤️

Yes! What ends up happening is that kids start sounding out letters to read and “bed” becomes buh- e- duh. And they can’t hear the word bed so even though they are capable of sounding out, it slows down their processing when trying to begin reading! This is so important!
