Best advice is "Don't do anything." Wait until the Banana plant collapse due to the the Bananas' weight. That is the best time to harvest. In Sri Lanka, we cook the flower too.

We just let them grow cuz they require minimal attention. Also we use dried banana flower as spice for our braised pork. We call it azucena.

when it has 20 or more clusters of bananas thats the time you cut the flower to let the tree focus its nutrients in growing the fruits...
