@clairahermet: WHO CAN RELATE? I think it’s important to be transparent and honest. I am and always will be a work in progress just like all of us. I like to see everything as an opportunity to learn and grow. I think one of the biggest things for me in my growth especially with anxious attachment is not to be reactive when I experience heightened emotions. Also to be aware of, reflect on and ask questions of my emotions that come up when I’m dating. If I’m honest I think some of my ‘playing things out till the end’ aka wanting to be in control is because of my last dating experience over the summer (if you haven’t seen the video it’s still up). I really started to fall for him and I genuinely thought he might be my person and then the rug got pulled out from under my feet and it hurt! As a result I really see that my want to be in control and to keep myself safe arising. I know and I have said when it comes to dating that ‘protecting ourselves’ too much or trying to ‘keep ourselves safe’ from heart break isn’t a healthy or authentic way to date because we holdback, we hide and that’s exhausting. I always want to practise what I preach. The good thing about being self aware and having great friends means I get to talk to them and get their feedback and advice. I also get to sit and be logical. I also get to realign with the 41 year old confident woman who knows what she wants. Then I can proceed from that place and space. Dating will trigger us! It’s that simple but that can be a great thing if we’re prepared and if we want to grow, learn and heal ourselves. Not for this person or for this situation but for us. Note to myself: I don’t need to know on date one if he is the one and if it will all workout. I can just enjoy getting to someone new.
