GEORGE FOREMAN AT 25 vs GEORGE FOREMAN AT 74: POWER DOESN’T AGE! . As a boxing fan who loves the old school just as much as (if not more than) the modern era, I’ve seen fighters of all walks of the earth achieve countless feats that I would consider to be impossible if they weren’t recorded at the time. But - without a doubt - the most incredible thing I have ever witnessed in combat sports is the sight and sound of Big George Foreman ripping the heavy bag with slugging shots that sound more like shotguns firing than punches landing. Just look at the first clip. Foreman is 25 years old, preparing to defend his undisputed heavyweight title against Muhammad Ali in Zaire and absolutely EVISCERATING the heavy bag - to the point where it has been caved in and looks more like Play-Doh than the usually rock solid structure of a gym-standard bag (which usually weigh over 100lbs at their largest!). I mean, seriously. Foreman is literally beating a heavy bag CONCAVE and sends his coach flying across the gym. This is legitimately one of the most unbelievable feats of strength ever caught on camera! Rumour has it that because he and Ali shared a gym and would have to train at different times, he would purposefully butcher the bags in such a way to strike fear in the ‘Louisville Lip’. Even at the age of 74 (the newer video was recorded two years ago) and after having what was effectively two full careers, George Foreman demonstrates that he can still summon the almost-mythical power he possessed in his prime and - once again - sends his coach flying as he’s being egged on by his son. There’s no doubt in my mind that Big George Foreman is the hardest puncher in the history of combat sports - ranking ahead of Shavers, Louis, Wilder, Marciano and a few others - and I believe the secret to it is not as mythical as you would think. It’s no secret that Foreman is, was and always will be a ridiculously strong individual but in his prime, he weighed around 220-230lbs and stood at 6’4 - which would place him as a ‘small’ or below average-sized heavyweight today. Why is it that he hits harder than the likes of Anthony Joshua (6’6, 250lbs) and Tyson Fury (6’9, 280lbs)? IT’S ALL IN THE TECHNIQUE! Look at Foreman’s foot placement when he throws his hooks - both from back in the day and in the present. He’s always balanced at the exact right spot by widening his stance just enough to where he can bend his knees and use the full torque of his hips to drive that hook inwards. In addition, he turns his shoulders with each shot to maximise the force in his twisting motion and follows through with the shot even on impact - expelling all pressure and force on the godforsaken soul that has the misfortune of being on the receiving end of this Herculean hydrogen bomb… .
