When I think about EV battery range, I mentally discount the bottom 20%—which you’re advised not to dip into—and the top 20%, which you shouldn’t consistently charge past. That leaves you with about 60% of the advertised range as your practical, day-to-day mileage. So if you’re aiming for a reliable 300 miles of usable range, you’d need a battery rated for about 500 miles—since 60% of 500 equals 300.
